Fronted by siblings Piper and Skylar Kaplan, Puro Instinct's hazy, swirling pop is reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac, Bobb Trimble and Lush with a bit more sparkle and smog. The groups tasty first single “STILYAGI,” (7” available for pre-order), features the helping hand of none other than fan and mate Ariel Pink, who took the group on tour last year supporting Haunted Graffiti. With floating background vocals, drum machines and other sonic sparkles surrounding Piper's dreamy voice, the groups full-length debut "Headbangers in Ecstasy" is due out soon!
After making waves at SXSW this year, composer and political philosophy & theory PHD, John Maus's third self-produced album, "We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves" will be released on June 28th. The album features 11 tracks of Maus' brand of vintage-inspired, lo-fi synth pop. Since 2006, Maus has been creating dark 80's-movie inspired jams, and has worked along side Haunted Graffiti's Ariel Pink.
Puro Instinct and John Maus will play Great Scott on Thursday, June 30 as part of the Fenway Recordings Sessions. Doors are at 9PM, show is at 10PM. Tickets are on sale now for $10 here.
