[LISTEN] Mission of Burma on Bullesye with Jesse Thorn

Last month, Mission of Burma were featured in a live taping of Bullseye with Jesse Thorn at OBERON in Cambridge, MA. Listen to the featured segment below (full episode available here).

From NPR's Bullseye with Jesse Thorn: Though the post-punk band Mission of Burma’s initial iteration was short-lived and resulted in only one full-length album, an EP and a few singles, their music influenced generations of musicians outside their home of Boston. Their appeal was still strong when they reformed in 2002 with band members Roger Miller, Peter Prescott and Clint Conley, adding new member Bob Weston. Since then the band has continued to perform live and has released 4 albums including their most recent entitled Unsound. The band performed a live set for us, and sat down with Jesse to talk about reforming the band after almost two decades apart, why they don’t make an effort to be rock stars and the subtle difference between being "legendarily loud" and being "hard to take". It’s what got us through and we’ve definitely have had a bit of a roller coaster of a time with it at times. I think that having each other is one of the things that makes us dogged and diligent and has kept us solid like that.

Gary Jarman has done an interview with Vanyaland in preparation for The Cribs's show at Brighton Music Hall this evening. In the interview, Jarman opens up about playing in an abandoned mill, why family bands don't succeed, and what it was like to record with The Cars' Ric Ocasek.

Joywave Share Part One of Huffington Post Series: Somebody New

"I had DJ'd a goth/industrial club in Rochester several times throughout 2012 and 2013 (with our now tour manager Bud) and the patrons there were always fascinating. I remember playing that 'they will not control/degraaaaaaade us' Muse song and everyone losing their minds. We wanted to capture a bit of that spirit as well."

Joywave has posted the first part of their Huffington Post series, "Why Be Credible When You Can Be Incredible?". The series is a track-by-track guide through the band's new LP, complete with recording tips, industry insights, and an outrageous sense of humor. The first article covers the opener, "Somebody New".

The Guardian has The Cribs recreate a Lionel Richie video

"We asked the punk trio to imitate the singer’s classic video and craft his face out of modelling clay. They got straight to work on their masterpiece" The Cribs - Lionel Richie

What was planned to be a lunch/interview with the Guardian became a hilarious attempt to create a clay model of a soul icon. The band was enthusiastic as always in taking on the task!
